Our Story
Schvitz means sweat. In Yiddish.
Brooklyn used to have schvitz houses where people went to sweat, talk, and spend time together. That spirit inspired our name.
We're Sam and Morganne. What started as casual sauna visits became something we wanted to do most days. We kept coming back not just for the heat, but for the conversations. Some of our favorite moments with other people have happened on a sauna bench, where phones stay outside and nothing else is competing for your attention.
During one of those visits, we saw someone wearing a wool hat and asked what it was for. That question led us to learn more about sauna hats and the traditions behind them.
When we started looking for sauna hats of our own, we weren't seeing a premium, American-made option. So we decided to make one.
Brooklyn's old schvitz houses were places to sweat and talk. That's where our name comes from.

THE TRADITION CAME FIRST
We didn't invent the sauna hat.
People have worn wool felt hats in banyas and saunas for generations. The reason is practical: wool insulates. In winter, it slows warmth from escaping your head. In a hot sauna, it slows the heat around you from reaching it.
That means a more comfortable head and, for many people, more time enjoying the sauna. We wanted to make a hat that respected the tradition, felt good to wear, and would hold up to the sessions ahead.

The first thing you notice about The Schvitzin is how soft the wool feels. It's substantial, 5mm felt, but nowhere near as rough as you might expect a wool sauna hat to be.
We chose 100% American merino wool, a thoughtful adjustable fit, and a way of making it that we can stand behind. Every detail has a purpose.
